What To Expect:

Welcome to Sunstone Chiropractic! In getting your care started at Sunstone Chiropractic we provide a starter program in which we work to create a customised plan of action for you and your health goals.

You can either request an appointment online or give is a call on 021 142 8992

Day One: Initial Consultation

Your first visit will take 35-45 minutes. A booking is required before hand to complete the paperwork necessary to proceed with your consult. (Paperwork must be filled out 24hours before scheduled appointment, if it is not then the appointment will be automatically deleted and a fee will apply for nonrescedules). Then, you'll meet Dr. Hazel Lohi! when you arrive she will show you "a beginners guide to Chiropractic" video so you are fully informed about what you’re walking into. She will then take you in for the consultation where you sit down together and discuss your history, goals and what you’re held back from doing by your particular health challenge. If the new practice member is your child, we'll speak extensively about your pregnancy, labor and birth.

The next step is a comprehensive examination that includes the CLA® Insight™ scanning technology to learn more about your nervous system function. These non-invasive forms of testing include;

  • Surface electromyography (Neurocore)- Evaluates spinal neuromuscular tone, pinpointing stress and alignment reactions
  • A thermal scan (Neurothermal)- Reveals spinal autonomic regulation, identifying imbalances affecting organ and gland function.
  • Heart rate variability (HRV/ Neuroimpulse)– measures adaptability, offering insights into practice members overall autonomic balance and performance.

This state-of-the-art approach is appropriate for anyone, even pregnant moms as well as children.

A hands-on spinal examination will be performed thereafter. Based on your history and physical examination your chiropractor may refer you out for x-rays to the nearest Radiology Clinic. If you are referred you will not be adjusted on the first visit. If there are no x-rays required you are adjusted on the first visit.

Dr. Hazel will then take time to analyze your examination and prepare the results to review with you at a follow-up.

Day Two: ROF

Following your initial examination your chiropractor will analyse your initial results to determine how we can help you. This appointment needs to be booked no more then 24/48 hours apart from the initial consult if you have received your first adjustment in the initial consult.

If you had an x-ray, this appointment will take place after your x-ray appointment.

When you return, you can plan on spending 30 minutes to look at your scans and the rest of the evaluations we completed on your first day. Dr. Hazel will discuss the specific plan of care she's designed to help you reach your goals. If you choose to move forward, you'll book your entire care plan with her and continue to receive Chiropractic Adjustments.

Creating your journey to healing.

At Sunstone Chiropractic we understand that everyone is different.

This appointment is all about giving you, a personalised care plan tailored to the needs of your spine and nervous system. We offer care to suit 3 different types of health goals to meet your needs, with the flexibility to change between types of care as your needs/wants change.

These include:

  1. Initial Intensive (Relief) Care:

Best suited for those looking for a short and intense program. Involves a series of high frequency adjustments aimed at providing rapid relief from symptoms such as pain, stiffness, or limited mobility. Usually spanning to a few weeks to a couple of months of weekly appointments.

While this intensive phase can provide significant symptom relief, it's important to note that it may not address the underlying or root cause of the problem comprehensively. Instead, it serves as a foundation for further treatment and rehabilitation. Factors such as lifestyle habits, posture, ergonomic issues, muscle imbalances, and other biomechanical factors that contribute to the problem may not be fully addressed during this relief phase.

Therefore, after the relief phase, the chiropractor typically transitions the patient into a corrective phase of care.

  2. Corrective Care:

This phase focuses on addressing the underlying causes of the symptoms through targeted treatment strategies, corrective exercises, rehabilitation, ergonomic adjustments, and lifestyle modifications.

Overall, while the initial intensive phase of chiropractic care provides valuable relief from symptoms, it's essential to continue with follow-up care to address the root causes and prevent the recurrence of symptoms in the long term.

Best suited for those seeking intermittent ongoing care that provides comfort by just doing enough to keep symptoms at bay. Usually weekly or fortnightly appointments.

  3. Wellness Care:

Maintaining a long-term resilient spine and nervous system.

Best suited to those looking to enhance their well-being and health through regular spinal adjustments. Ensuring steady progress and management of your current and new stressors. Usually 3 or 4 weekly appointments, (must complete relief or corrective to reach wellness care).

Continuing to Benefit From Chiropractic!

Once we have gone through the first and second visit, we will get you checked and adjusted based on your agreed care plan with Dr. Hazel. Every 12 visits or once a year we schedule in additional time to check-in to see how you're doing under care. We redo our neurological tests and scans again to be able to measure and see where you're at and modify your care plan accordingly.

Many people wonder if you must see a chiropractor for the rest of your life once you begin care. The good news is, the choice is completely yours! We don't require you to keep returning for adjustments. Similar to anything else you do like eating well and exercising, your spine and nervous system needs maintenance. We don't want you to experience a recurrence of your problems, but the decision to continue care is up to you.
